Kings Langley v Chorleywood 16/07/08

Kings Langley 22 for 10 wickets 1pt
Chorleywood 23 for 0 wickets 20pts

Chorleywood win by 10 wickets.

Needing a victory to secure the league title, Chorleywood won the toss and invited Kings Langley to bat on what was always going to be a challenging wicket.

Opening bowlers Kumar and Peglar soon applied early pressure. Kurran made the opening break through by bowling 2 batsmen in his opening over and followed up by bowling another in his next over to leave Kings Langley struggling on 4 for 3 after 4 overs.

Fraser then joined in and took 3 wickets in his 3rd over, 2 bowled and the other to an excellent catch by newcomer Oli Clark. Another wicket from Fraser and 2 more from Kurran left Kings Langley on 16 for 9 after 8 overs.

Fraser took 4 for 10 from 4 overs and Kurran 5 for 4 from 4 overs and 2 maidens. Tim Bitirim and Jack Higgins then joined the attack and both bowled well before Tim finished the innings by bowling the final Kings Langley batsman to finish with 1 for 2 from 2.2 overs.

In reply Chorleywood cruised to victory with Harry Brooks finishing on 7 not out and Will Bryant on 5 not out. A tremendous performance from the bowlers who were well supported in the field with Matthew Feast deputizing well as 'keeper.

Our batting was then very solid on a difficult wicket and it was a very pleasing way to finish the season.

We look forward to the match on Sunday.

Chorleywood 124 for 6 wickets 9pts

Radlett beat Chorleywood by 9 runs but Chorleywood obtain crucial 6th batting point for scoring over 120 when chasing Radlett's Total.

Radlett CC won the toss and elected to bat first and scored very impressive total of 133 for the lost of 6 wickets.

Radlett lost a wicket in the first over for 12 runs. And then lost another two quick wickets with the total of 32 runs on the board.

But very impressive batting from Guy Holden and Jonathan Midgen gave some hopes for Radlett. Especially hard hitting led by an unbeaten 30 from Jonathan Midgen, supported by 27 from Guy Holden.

Chorleywood started well but lost wickets at regular interval. Unbeaten 30 not out from Peglargave some hopes but Chorleywood managed 124 for 6 for the allocated 20 over’s.

It was a very close game. After fifteen overs both sides had the chance to win but good bowling performance from Radlett boys won the day, and makes for an interesting final two weeks of the regular season.

Chorleywood v Shenley Village 23/06/08

Chorleywood 141 for 2 wickets 20pts
Shenley Village 98 all out 5pts

Chorleywood won by 43 runs.

Chorleywood batted first and made a positive start through openers Harry Brooks and Callum Neal. Making the most of a good wicket and a fast outfield both openers scored fluently. Harry was the first to retire on 33 having played particularly well off his legs and through cover.

Callum was next to retire on 32 having also played particularly well of his legs. Fraser Peglar then played a well balanced knock of 16 mixing powerful hitting with excellent running before being narrowly run out.

Jonny Bryer and Cameron Murray continued the excellent running and finished unbeaten on 15 and 9 respectively as Chorleywood made a seasons high 141-2. For Shenley skipper Cooke produced some prodigious spin with his leg breaks but Copping was the most successful bowler with 1 for 16 from 2 overs.

In reply Shenley made an unfortunate start with the early run out of opener Harris who had started fluently but Belchark batted smoothly for an excellent 27. Some powerful hitting from Cooke helped to bolster the total but wickets started to tumble as Chorleywood mixed their bowling up and caught their catches.

All of the bowlers bowled well with the most successful being Jack Higgins (2 for 1 from 3 balls - hat trick ball next game!), Niall Sharma (2 for 7 from 2 overs), Will Weston (2 for 17 from 3 overs), Fraser Peglar (1 for 17 from 3 overs) and Harry Brooks (1 for 23 from 4 overs).

There were excellent catches from Bryer, Peglar, Sharma and 'keeper Stephen Harris who again excelled behind the stumps.

This was the best performance of the season by Chorleywood and was particularly pleasing given the disappointing loss to an excellent Langleybury team in the previous match.

This was a good match played in excellent spirit and we wish Shenley well for the rest of the season.

Langleybury v Chorleywood 16/06/08

Chorleywood 86 for 4 wickets in 20 overs 7pt
Langleybury 87 for 7 in 19.5 overs 20pts

LCC won the toss and put the visitors into bat. With LCC missing their top two players and CCC missing the two bowlers that bowled LCC top 4 bats in the previous encounter it was a chance for others to shine.

CCC openers looked to repeat their habit of quick singles. LCC were well prepared and had Brooks run out in the second over with CCC on 3.Callum Neal hit a four in the beginning of the third only to be bowled next ball, 11-2.

A decent partnership ensued between Dichlian & Briar before LCC skip bowled big hitting Dichlian for 18 with CCC 50-3 off 13 overs. 36 were added in the last overs with Hussain run out on the penultimate ball. Briar remained 20*. LCC used 6 bowlers with wickets for E.King 3-0-12-1 & G.Hurley 4-1-13-1 to go with the 2 run outs.

LCC lost young Cornes first ball & bat 3, Wall followed 9 runs later by the 4th over. LCC did not panic. Opener Harsh Shah & Mackenzie East's patience paid off & after 3 successive maidens they took the score from 22 to 37 before Shah was trapped lbw.LCC ended the 11th 39-3.

Rob King joined East & attacked the bowlers. East was run out soon after but Angus Ball joined King & ably supported him taking singles before being caught behind with LCC 69-5 off 16.3. 9 yr old Josh Roe came to the crease with style flicking a four off his legs first ball.

Despite the wicket it was a great over for LCC now 76-5 off 17. Next over was going well with two singles off 3 leaving 9 for victory when disaster struck. Young Roe received a no ball and King ran, Roe didn't King out for 19. Roe added another single, LCC 81-6, 12 balls remaining.

Skipper George Hurley joined Roe who was also run out on the last ball of the 19th with the score on 85. New Bat Mistry was facing the last over being bowled by opening bowler Callum Neal.

Mistry missed the first 3, edged the 4th & Hurley charged home for the single to tie the scores. Hurley duly connected on the 5th & the pair raced a single for a thrilling victory.

There were wickets for Neal 1-8 off 3.5, Briar 1-11 off 4, Higgins 1-22 off 3, & Wiggins 1-9 off 1.

Chorleywood v Shenley LC 15/06/08

Chorleywood 119 for 6 wickets 20pts
Shenley LC 108 for 3 wickets 8pts

Chorleywood batted first and made a positive start through openers Harry Brooks and Callum Neal. Running aggressively they put on 29 before Harry was run out going for one single too many.

Callum was now well into his stride and made an impressive unbeaten 32 which included some excellent boundaries. Callum put on 31 for the 3rd wicket with Fraser Peglar who made a rapid 15 including the shot of the day with a tremendous cover drive for 4.

The rest of the Chorleywood batting all batted solidly and did well to negate the threat of Jaymee Malkan who bowled very well in conceding only 6 runs from his 4 overs. Will Bryant in particular looked thoroughly at home playing a year above himself. The most successful bowlers for Shenley were Gus (1-26) and Harry (1-25).

In reply Chorleywood looked to have got on top early with Jonny Bryer bowling his best spell of the season (4 overs, 1 maiden, 0-13) but some lazy fielding and a lack of concentration helped Shenley to mount a serious challenge.

Malkan batted patiently for his 26 before being bowled by Kurran Kumar who was very accurate in returning 1-16 from 4 overs. Gus continued the scoring and retired for an excellent 30 not out.

C'wood then brought on Callum Neal who tightened things up in a good 3 over spell including the final over to lead the team to an 11 run victory. The most successful bowlers for C'wood were Peglar (1-14 from 3 overs) and Wiggins (1-15 from 2 overs).

This was a good match played in excellent spirit, good luck to Shenley for the rest of the season.

Chorleywood v Abbots Langley 09/06/08

Chorleywood 124 for 3 wickets 20pts
Abbots Langley 50 for 4 wickets 3pts

Chorleywood won by 74 runs.

Chorleywood hosted Abbot's Langley at Chorleywood common on a beautiful summers evening and batted first. Once again openers Brooks and Neal batted well in putting on 59 before Callum was run out for an elegant 26.

Fraser Peglar then continued the good work in making a swift 22 in a welcome return to form which contained some powerfully hit boundaries. Harry accelerated his scoring with some well timed drives and retired with a well paced 30.

Abdullah Hussein, on debut, batted positively in making 8 and Chorleywood closed their innings on 124-3. For Abbotts Langley there were two sharp run outs and T Bush was the most successful bowler with 1-11 from 3 overs.

In reply Abbots struggled in the face of some disciplined Chorleywood bowling and fielding. Chorleywood bowled all of their bowlers (10!) and restricted Abbots to 50-4 in 20 overs.

The most successful bowlers were Kurran Kumar with 2 for 14 in3 overs, Jack Higgins with 1 for 3 in 2 overs and Callum Neal with 1 for 2 in 2 overs well supported by tidy bowling from Will and Niall.

The fielding was once again led by Cameron and Kai and there were well taken catches by Callum and Fraser. Wicketkeeper Steven Harris continues to impress and looked very tidy behind the stumps. For Abbots the most successful batsmen were Tahir with 11 and Moore with 12 not out.

The match was played in perfect conditions and good spirit, well done to all involved.

Chorleywood v Kings Langley 01/06/08

Chorleywood 79 for 6 wickets 20pts
Kings Langley 34 for 8 wickets 4pts

Chorleywood win by 45 runs

Chorleywood hosted Kings Langley on Sunday morning and managed to dodge the rain showers to complete an entertaining game of cricket. Kings won the toss and invited Chorleywood to bat.

Openers Brooks and Neal again put on another significant opening partnership that laid the base for a strong batting effort on a difficult pitch and a slow outfield. Callum Neal played fluently for 26 and Harry Brooks played the supporting role in making 8.

The partnership totaled 60 before both boys departed in successive deliveries, Callum to an excellent catch and Harry lbw to one that kept low. Cameron Murray then continued the good work in making 11 as Chorleywood totaled a healthy 79-6 in their 20 overs.

In reply Kings Langley struggled in the face of some tight, disciplined bowling scoring only 7 runs in their first 7 overs. Fraser Peglar in particular bowled an excellent opening spell of 4 overs, 2 maidens, 0 for 3 runs.

They then tried to attack spinner Brooks (4 overs, 1 maiden, 2 for 10) who took two quick wickets, both good catches by Peglar. As the required run rate climbed opener Reynolds attacked and hit a couple of good boundaries before falling to Kurran Kumar (2 overs, 1 maiden, 1 for 1) for 13.

This effectively ended King's chances of winning the game and it was left to Higgins (1-12 in 3 overs), Wiggins (1 over, 1 maiden 1 for 0) and Neal (3 overs, 2 maidens, 1 for 2) to complete an excellent bowling effort. A special note must be made of U9 James Feast who deputized for his injured older brother at the last minute. Showing none of his fathers erratic bowling talent, James bowled 2 overs and took 1 wicket for 4 runs - well done!

Chorleywood were excellent in the field, saving a lot of runs with their sharpness - Kai Wiggins, Cameron Murray and Fraser Peglar all excelling. The quality of the fielding effort was encapsulated by a direct hit by Niall Sharma to run out one of the lower order batsman. Harry and Callum captained the team between them and made some excellent fielding and bowling changes - well done to both.

This was a match played in good spirit in difficult conditions so well done to all involved and we look forward to the return match.

Chorleywood v Langleybury 20/05/08

Chorleywood 44 for 2 wickets 20pts
Langleybury 43 for 7 wickets 3pts

Chorleywood won by 8 wickets.

Chorleywood won the toss and invited Langleybury to bat and opening bowlers Neal and Pegler soon applied early pressure.

Pegler made the opening break through by bowling both openers to finish with 2 for 4 in 3 overs. Kai Wiggins then took a wicket with another batsman bowled before Niall Sharma took 2 wickets in 2 balls - the first of these being an excellent catch by Will Weston at mid off.

Kai finished with 1 for 6 from 4 overs and Niall 2 for 7 from 3 overs. Will Weston and Jack Higgins then took a wicket each to leave Langleybury on 43 for 7 from their overs. Steve Harris put in his best performance of the season behind the stumps in keeping very tidily.

In the field Cameron Murray and Callum Neal again showed their sharpness in keeping
the runs down.

In reply Chorleywood soon lost opener Brooks to a run out but new players Radcliffe and Feast moved the score along to 33 before Radcliffe was bowled. Stephen Harris then struck a lovely 4 before Feast hit the winning runs to secure the win by 8 wickets.

This was a good match played in an excellent spirit and Langleybury competed hard. They clearly have some talented young players coming through and we look forward to the return match.

Chorleywood v Radlett 18/05/08

Chorleywood 58 for 8 wickets 20pts
Radlett 54 for 8 wickets 5pts

Chorleywood win by 4 runs.

Radlett won the toss and invited Chorleywood to bat on a difficult wicket that offered a good degree of assistance to the bowlers.

Callum Neal fell early to a sharp run out but Harry Brooks continued his good early season form and looked comfortable before falling for 12.

Jonny Bryer then pushed the scoring along to finish on a well made 10 not out with the team total being 58-8. Radlett's bowlers all bowled tightly with Hindocha (2 for 7 in 2 overs) and Phanha (2 for 4 in 1 over) proving the most successful.

We felt that the total was a little low but the wicket was clearly difficult and outfield slow so we knew that a good bowling performance could at least make things difficult for Radlett during their reply.

A tight opening spell from Jonny Bryer and Callum Neal started to build the pressure and Harry Brooks took a good catch from Bryer to dismiss opening bat Henson.

Spinners Brooks and Weston then turned the game with 5 wickets between them, Harry finishing with 4 for 8 from 4 overs and Will with 1 for 12 from 4 - included in this was an excellent catch from Will Bryant and another sharp stumping from Stephen Harris. Radlett to their credit continued to battle hard running well between the wickets and edging ever closer to victory.

A good spell from Jack Higgins helped to further turn the match in Chorleywood's favor as he took 2 for 9 from 3 overs. Needing 6 to win of the final over Radlett could only manage a single as Callum Neal finished his spell in impressive style and took Chorleywood to victory by 4 runs.

Both teams played some excellent cricket and we look forward to the return fixture.

Shenley Village v Chorleywood 14/05/08

Shenely Village 102 for 6 wickets 5pts
Chorleywood 103 for 0 wickets 20pts

Chorleywood beat Shenley Village by 10 wickets.

Shenley batting first, started well, hitting 29 off the first four overs, with quick and easy runs, but then with good bowling limited their run rate.

Shenley's opening partnership came to a end with a stealthy stumping at 40, then followed at 52 with another bowled. Myers entered and with a short burst of 13, boosted a slowing run rate due to extremely good fielding positions. Chorleywood bowlers contained the Shenley batsmen, slowly picking up wickets as the innings ended at a reasonable 102 for 6.

Chorleywood commenced their innings, consistantly contained and limited in shots, but as the conclusion of the innings would prove, extras benefited greatly and took the game away from Shenley.

The weather, playing a fair part to short sleeved players, saw the Shenley boys struggle and the extras reared a formidable burden.

In the end, without conceeding a wicket, Chorleywoord completed a simple victory, scoring only 47% of the runs from the bat, the remaining from the widening list of extras.

Both Marshall (Shenley) and Neal (Chorleywood) came close to completing the required retirements score, but in the end, both run short of time and a stump.

This game has prooved a good lesson for how extras can lose a team a game.

Shenley Colts LC v Chorleywood 09/05/08

Shenley 74 for 5 wickets 20pts
Chorleywood 73 for 3 wickets 5pts

Shenley won the toss and elected to bat and made a positive start before Harry Brooks took a fine return catch to dismiss Middlesex Development Squad Batsman Malkan.

Herts player Shay Emerton then upped the scoring and made an excellent 27 before falling to a fine catch by Kurran Kumar from Jack Higgins' first delivery. Jack then took another wicket, that of Middlesex player Assani thanks to a well judged catch by Will Bryant.

Tight bowling by Kurran Kumar (on debut) and Callum Neal in particular who took 2 wickets in his final over to finish with the excellent figures of 4 overs, 2 maidens 2 wickets for 3, restricted Shenley to 74 for 5. The fielding was in general very good and Stephen Harris kept wicket very tidily.

In reply Chorleywood got off to a steady reply through Harry and Callum in the face of a high quality bowling attack. Callum fell with score on 23 but Cameron Murray joined Harry in another excellent stand before having to retire hurt having been hit on the foot backing up by a fierce drive from Harry (next time try jumping Cam, it’s a lot less painful!).

Chorleywood pulled themselves ahead of the rate and with wickets in hand looked favorites to win the match. In fading light however the dismissal of Harry in the penultimate over for a well made 21 proved decisive. Needing 5 runs to win of the final over Chorleywood struggled to get the bowling away and Jonny was narrowly run out off the final ball.

A tie would have won us the match by dint of losing fewer wickets but I was pleased by an excellent performance. A number of the boys have not played yet this season and it was a strong performance against a competitive Shenley team with a nucleus of high quality players. We look forward to the return match as this game was played in an excellent spirit, well done to both teams.
