Hemel Hempstead v Chroleywood 29/06/08

Hemel Hempstead 90 for 6 wickets 6pts
Chroleywood 91 for 4 wickets 20pts

Having elected to bat Hemel openers Ridgewell and Dale looked to be building a firm foundation until a bad call allowed Dom Rice to run out Dale for 4.

New batsman Sattaur then put together an impressive partnership of 64 with Ridgewell taking the score to 77 against lively bowling from Acaster, Naisby, Rose, Rice and Ryan. When Sattaur holed out to Chris Naisby on 26 off the bowling of U11 Frazer Pegler Hemel were in their 17th over and running out of overs to post a big score.

In an attempt to push the score along and with opener Ridgewell retired on 30 Hemel took chances which resulted in two more run outs and a caught and bowled by Dom Rice. Hemel finished on 90 for 6.

Chorleywood's effort in the field was impressive and were able to take credit for restricting top of the table Hemel to only 90 runs.

Rose with 4-0-12-1 and Rice 3-0-14-1 had the best figures and Jordan Fowler's 3 overs of slow bowling for 12 runs caused the opposition problems and was also noteworthy. Under 11 keeper Stephen Harris put in a very good effort behind he stumps.

With Dom Rice, Alex Petrie and Jordan Fowler all back in the pavilion by the 4th over Chorleywood's reply looked a little rocky but with the team batting long Skipper Josh Ryan was able to join Matt Rose for a decent partnership and steady the ship with sensible running and good shots, Rose reached his maximum and retired to see Chris Naisby come in at 6.

Naisby and Ryan with quick singles pushed the score along well ahead of the asking rate, Ryan was eventually bowled for 14 in the 15th over with the score on 80. Pegler and Naisby saw the team home with 4 overs to spare.

Matt Rose 30 not out
Chris Naisby 19 not out
Josh Ryan 14.

Chorleywood v Leverstock Green 27/06/08

Chorleywood 85 for 5 wickets
Leverstock Green 119 for 4 wickets 20pts.

Chorleywood lose.

Berkhamsted v Chorleywood 16/06/08

Berkhamsted 123 for 6 wickets
Chorleywood 109 all out

Chorleywood fall short in heroic chase.

On Monday the U12s assembled at Berkhamsted as a patched up outfit with only 10 players available.

Electing to bat Berkhamsted started steadily against some remarkable swing bowling from the Wood attack, Ethan Acaster, Chris Naisby, Josh Ryan and Harry Highfield were able to use the slope to their advantage and making batting difficult.

Openers Roberts and Hopkins scored well and put on 33 until Josh Ryan trapped Hopkins LBW for 8. Roberts played the anchor role to the next two bats Spencer and Harvey, while he scored singles and twos they hit out and found the boundary with ease.

In between Highfield bowled a creditable 3 overs for 2 wickets conceding only 5 runs. Harvey eventually retired on 30 with some big hitting and a 6 to his name. Parker and Callum Miles moved the score along boundary shots and a few too many runs were added to the final total, having restricted Berkhamsted to 99 off 17 overs Chorleywood then conceded 24 off the last 3.

Berkahmsted were able to post a healthy total of 123 for 6. Unusually for Chorleywood there were 3 dropped catches, 2 off the bowling of skipper Josh Ryan who finished with figures of 4-1-18-1. A special mention must be given to U10 player Will Bryant, playing up two age groups is praise for his ability and by taking a wicket with his first ball and bowling 2 overs for 6 runs is proof that he is a fine bowler.

In reply Chorleywood set about the task with real endevour and were ahead of the asking rate at the 10th over but the loss of early wickets and with ten men the chase became a hard challenge, the pitch assistance evened out and Berkhamsted took full advantage with Spencer taking three wickets in two overs.

With Jack Tame, Dom Rice, Josh Ryan and Ethan Acaster back in the pavilion with 6 runs between them the target looked doubtful but some fine batting by Chris Naisby gripped the spectators, first he reached his maximum with 12 shots and 6 4s, then as our 8th wicket fell he was able to return to the wicket and plunder an extra 25 runs in a short space of time only to be caught on the boundary off the last ball of the innings, remarkably he was able to return a match score of 55.

Bryant, Highfield and Josh Hallam all chipped in with runs and despite Naisby's big effort the Wood fell short but they, Berko, were worried ! Although we had finished short by 15 runs we had made a fantastic recovery and put up a reasonable effort considering we a hastily arranged team and a 10 man outfit.

Tring Park v Chorleywood 05/06/08

Tring Park 104 for 8 wickets 20pts
Chorleywood 99 for 6 wickets 8pts

Tring Park win by 5 runs.

Tring were put into bat and lost a wicket first ball to the impressive Rose who also dismissed the other opener.

James Pride with 19 and Robbie Grout who was retired on 31 both batted very well taking to Tring to 58 after 9 over’s. Oliver Butler scored a breezy 14 including a huge 6 but Kotecha with 3 wickets kept the pressure on.

Despite Jake Seagrave batting sensibly at the end, the last 6 over’s only yielded 19 runs. Credit to an impressive Chorleywood attack. In reply Petrie was dropped first ball and made Tring pay scoring 33 before retiring. In partnership with Rose who scored 22 Chorleywood were always ahead of the run rate.

The Tring spinners Toby Seagrave and James Darraugh then put the brakes on and Robbie Grout took two wickets as Tring fought back.

19 were needed of the last 3 over’s and Chorleywood ended up falling just short. A very entertaining game between two talented sides.

Chorleywood v West Herts 25/05/08

West Herts conceded the match

Chorleywood 20pts.

Chorleywood v Hemel Hempstead 18/05/08

Chorleywood 66 for 2 wickets 4pts
Hemel Hempstead 100 for 3 wickets 20pts

Chorleywood elected to bowl first on a blustery but bright day at YHS.

The opening spell from Ragev Kotecha was straight and very economical he ended up with figures of 4.1.12.0. Milun Kumar bowled well for similar figures 3.0.9.0. Hemel opener Ridgewell then started batting with real purpose and scored an unbeaten 30 with great support from Dylan Sattaur finishing on 33 retired.

Some sloppy fielding and poor bowling gave Hemel the opportunity to post a decent total. Chorleywood's response was simply too slow and the opening pair of Harry Hardcastle and Thomas Marsh struggled against some very straight Hemel bowling and managed only 8 runs from the bat in the opening 8 overs.

Alex Petrie was the only Chorleywood batsman who looked capable of chasing the total but his unbeaten 30 was simply too late and the home side ran out of overs well short of the 101 runs required.

Chorleywood v Berkhamsted 15/05/08

Rain prevents play

Leverstock Green v Chorleywood 04/05/08

Leverstock Green 83 for 4 wickets 20pts
Chorleywood 80 for 4 wickets 6pts

After batting first, Leverstock Green compiled a competitive total of 83 mainly due to the efforts of George McCausland (31 retired) and Sam Revell (22). E. Atcaster (1-12) and M. Rose (1-8)bowled economically for Chorleywood conceding only 20 runs from 8 overs between them.

Chorleywood started their innings slowly before . Rose (32 retired) and J. Ryan (15) put on an outstanding partnership to almost see them past Leverstock Green’s score.

It was Sam Revell (2-9), who came back at the death to restrict Chorleywood and see his side through to victory.

Flamstead v Chorleywood 28/04/08

U12s smack Flamstead.

The U12 kicked off their campaign with a resounding victory on a sunny but cold evening at Flamstead CC.

Chorleywood were put in to bat and duly applied themselves to the task of reaching a target of 120. Openers Jake Chandler and Tom Wilson fell early but Chris Naisby and Josh Ryan steadily pushed the score along with singles and boundaries, both were driving well until Chris eventually found a fielder in the covers and was well caught for 22. Jack Tame continued the good work and with Josh, helped with an abundance of wides, the target of 120 we set was achieved exactly. Both finished not out, Josh on 23 and Jack on 14. It has to be said Flamstead fielded exceptionally well and kept some worthy cover drives from going to the boundary.

The Chorleywood bowling and fielding response was impressive, straight bowling and accurate throwing into the stumps brought results swiftly, 4 run outs with two to Chris Naisby and one of note to Alex Petrie. Ethan Acaster returned 3 overs -1 maiden - 2 runs - 3 wickets, Milun Kumar 2-1-5-2. The task was complete with 10 overs bowled, all out for a total of 15.

A great start to the season.
